The Windjoule ( WIN5 ) micro wind power machine

  • A compact low wind speed device which has been specifically designed to produce its rated power output at the UK average mean wind speed of 5m/s.

  • The revolutionary hybrid design won a UK Government Innovation Award which allowed for wind tunnel testing at Cranfield University.

  • The 1/4 scale prototype test revealed a 3 times power advantage over a traditional turbine of the same size at 5 m/s.

  • The WIN5 uses drag and lift components to maximise the available wind resource.

  • The articulating blades are automatically orientated by the prevailing wind current to their optimum position of drag, lift, or downwind.

  • Producing similar power output characteristics to a traditional turbine rated at 15kW at 12m/s, the WIN5 is less than 1/3rd of the size.

  • In addition WIN5s can be sited close together, which makes it possible to cluster groups of machines in compact spaces close to the existing grid.

All of which will help to reduce the environmental impact and cost of wind energy.
